Charter Member Nominations 2009

The OSGeo Foundation Chief Returning Officer (CRO) has posted new nominations to OSGeo Charter Members.

Personally, I’m glad to see Robert Szczepanek from Poland listed among other noble members of OSGeo Community. Robert has played an important & leading role in FOSS and FOSS4G advocacy, education and development in our Polish yard for long time:

Robert has been an active member of OSGeo community and contributor to projects like Quantum GIS and GRASS for long time, and recently also involved in gvSIG project. He is a mover and leader of Polish Translations of UI of all the three projects, with help from other Polish members Milena Nowatorska and Borys Jurgiel. By the way, check Borys’ plugins. He also translates Quantum GIS manual and prepares Polish versions of press releases. Robert also initiated his own project called GIS icons theme.
In education, Robert authored complete course for new adepts of GIS. The course is purely based on Open Source software (including QGIS and GRASS. Robert also encourages his students, to make dissertations based or about FOSS4G and Open Standards, and with success.

It’s a good news for OSGeo Community in Poland.

First Climbing in Portland

Last Saturday, Pantera, my friend Roger and I, we spent a wonderful day on the Isle of Portland.

Thanks to Pantera, we have collected quite a nice photo & video log from during the trip including walking, swimming, climbing, soloing (DWS), eating and sleeping. All the stuff available on my Flickr

It was my first time in Portland and I’ll definitely come back there.

Geospatial bits on BoostCon’09

On the 3rd of May 2009, the best event dedicated to C++ programmers starts in Aspen, US. It is BoostCon’09. The conference gathers developers and users of Boost C++ Libraries.

This year the event brings some flavour of geospatial technologies. Barend Gehrels and Bruno Lalande – core developers – are presenting their Generic Geometry Library –

a library for geometry and geography,
being agnostic in coordinate space and dimensions,
based on templates and static polymorphism,
decoupling types from algorithms,
applying (self)verification of specified requirements with use of concepts
