Me

So… It’s always really hard to write about yourself. Someone could say that I should put money out to get a publicist to write my resume. Yeah, that could be funny. But the problem is that I don’t know any publicist who knows me enough. I have to do it my self ;-)

Currently, I live in Poland, in Warsaw (very ugly capital city).

I’m a student of Faculty of Forestry on the Warsaw Agricultural University and I’m going to finish my master’s degree in the Department of Dendrometry and Forest Productivity. My master thesis is about…,yeah, a lot of statistics, dendrometry, computations etc.

Last ~5 years, I worked for Taxus SI Ltd. company as a GIS software developer. In Taxus SI I was working on Geographical Information Systems and applications for the forestry and nature protection institutions.

After I left Taxus, I started to work as a freelance GIS software developer and consultant. Recently, I joined the GDAL development team as a contract developer. I’ve been very happy being able to work for GDAL.

In my free time, I contribute to projects like GEOS, FDO, C++/Tk, SOCI and others. I’m also trying to be an evangelist of the OSGeo foundation.

I’d say I’m a geek because I’m interested - or better, fascinated - in many things. I like to know more and more about those things, so I dig into them as much as possible, and as much as those things are interesting for me.
I’d also say I’m a hacker, not a cracker. I like creating things and solving problems. So, I understand what ESR says about hacking this way: it is a kind of motive power giving people technical adeptness and a delight in solving problems and overcoming limits. I really like this understanding of hacking = motive power.

Sport. When I was a kid, sport was one of the most important thing in my life (football, basket, jogging,…). I always was fascinated with climbing, mountainering and more extreme sports. When I went to high school I started to practise climbing. I practise climbing till now, also biking and jogging. Certainly, I don’t have as much time as I wish, but - as Jules Winnfield said - But I’m trying, Ringo. I’m trying real hard to be the shepherd…climber :-)
