GIS in Practice Conference in Warsaw, 29 Nov 2007

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

On 29 November 2007 an interesting event will take place in Warsaw, Poland. The annual XIV GIS in Practice Conference is devoted to discuss topics about space management, local community development and communal participation.

Full name of the conference in Polish language:

    • Who are INSPIRE beneficiaries?
    • Is INSPIRE supposed to be success?
  • Geoportals, traditional GIS on the Internet or another media (Maciej Sztampke, ESRI)
    • New directions of GIS technology
    • Do these tools provide users with objective information?
    • Examples of interesting applications
  • Panel discussion: What does INSPIRE implementation and strategy mean for local governments?
Guests: prof. Bogdan Ney, dr Marek Baranowski, dr Tomasz Stuczyński and Marcin Guzik. Moderator: Paweł Decewicz
  • Discussion of spatial conflicts in areas of NATURA 2000 network. (Katarzyna Twardowska i Ryszard Zakrzewski, Ministry of the Environment)

All information above was stolen from the conference website maintained by Centrum Promocji Informatyki Ltd. company, the conference organizer.

GDAL/OGR 1.4.3 Released

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

The GDAL/OGR Team Finally, the long awaited stable release of GDAL and OGR has been published. Current stable release number is 1.4.3. There is not much of magic of numerology behind this number and it just says it consists of 3rd iteration of patches to 1.4 stable release.

The official GDAL/OGR 1.4.3 announcement says:

Folks,

The GDAL Team is pleased to announce the release of GDAL/OGR 1.4.3.
This is intended to be a successive bug fix release after GDAL/OGR 1.4.2
and it’s extending the GDAL 1.4.x stable branch.
This release does not include the many new features in the development
trunk (which will appear as GDAL/OGR 1.5.0).

With GDAL/OGR 1.4.3, 65 Trac tickets were addressed:

GDAL 1.4.3 RC2

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

This is very important update to the GDAL 1.4.3 Release Candidate 1 published yesterday. I screwed and generated GDAL 1.4.3 RC1 packages with sources from trunk, so users found it surprising when they encountered a bunch of new features and drivers. On the other hand, it was a pre-announcement of the GDAL 1.5.0 release :-P

Here is the official announcement sent on the gdal-dev list:

From – Sun Oct 28 18:50:31 2007
Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2007 18:50:26 +0100
From: Mateusz Loskot <mateusz@loskot.net>
To: gdal-dev@lists.maptools.org
Subject: GDAL /OGR 1.4.3 Release Candidate 2

Folks,

*** IMPORTANT ***
I appologize for my mistake during preparation of gdal-1.4.3 RC1
and you got sources from ‘trunk’ instead of from ‘branches/1.4′.
Following GDAL 1.4.3 RC 2 is dedicated to correct this issue.
Special thanks to Joaquim Luis reporting the problem very fast.
