PROJ.4 4.5.0 Release

Today morning, Frank Warmerdam announced new release of PROJ.4 library and tools.

Changes from the NEWS file:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 8 compatibility changes
  • Upgraded to EPSG 6.11.1 database
  • Several bug fixes to pj_transform() to handle transient errors properly
  • Fix Krovak projection (include +czech flag)
  • Added Roussilhe Stereographic projection from libproj4 (proj=rouss)
  • Added experimental +lon_wrap flag for alternate pj_transform() longitude wrapping behavior on output

Web mapping of cemetery

Today, I found an innovative or even surprising example of web mapping use. On the website of Cemeteries in Szczecin, there is an example of how web mapping technologies can be used to map cemetery. Unfortunately, the website is in Polish langauge only but I believe using maps is pretty language-less.

My parents have new dog

Beno, my parents' new dogBeno is my parents’ has new dog :-)

They took him from a dog shelter today. He is around 10 months old and seems to be of St. Bernard Dog breed or similar or a mixture of St. Bernard. It is a big and sweet dog. My father is very happy he has new friend for long walks combined with some stop in a pub. ;-)

Open Source Geospatial Foundation Selects Tyler Mitchell

Five minutes ago, I received a great announcement saying the OSGeo hired Tyler Mitchell as an executive director:

Seattle, Washington, Oct. 19, 2006- The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, today announced that Tyler Mitchell has been hired as its new executive director. Mitchell-who has a decade of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience as an Analyst, Manager, open source advocate and author-will be responsible for the Foundation’s day-to-day operations, supporting development and promotion.

Rob Savoye interviewed about Gnash
