In the March 2006, when I was working in Taxus SI Ltd. company, I started porting the PROJ.4 library to Windows CE platform. I checkouted the source code of PROJ.4 library from its CVS repository and applied changes required to build it with the eVC++ 4.0 compiler.
At the end of March 2006 I announced first results and sent big patch to the proj@lists.maptools.org mailing list. During next months the Windows CE port was waiting for someone interested to test and use it.
Today, Wynand Kruger from Kreon Technology Ltd. asked on the PROJ.4 list about it. Hurray! I called. I hope this may be a chance to start some tests of my port on many Windows CE platforms to make it stable. After I left Taxus SI Ltd., I lost access to wide variety of Windows CE devices and I’m not able to test it extensively now. But I’m an optimist and I believe some interested users will come :-)
Today, I decided to stroke the PROJ.4 port development a bit and I published small website devoted to this project..
So, I’d like to encourage all of you being interested in using PROJ.4 on Windows CE devices to download the source code, compile it, test it and use it.
Certainly, I’d love to hear your comments!
Dear Mateusz,
Firstly I would like to congratulate you for your efforts to run the proj4 on Windows. I think this is something that many users need but can’t succeed, like me. I have readen your article downloaded the zip file. I will try to run it as soon as possible on a borland c++ compiler or borland c++ builder. Because I would like to include proj4 in my personal Windows project.
I will inform you when I proceed. Thanks again.
Ragards.
Erdem.
Erdem,
Probably there is some misunderstanding. My version of PROJ.4 is a port to Windows CE (operating system for mobile devices) but not to desktop Windows systems. So, if you want to use PROJ.4 with Borland C++ compilers and use it in your application for Windows desktop, just use official PROJ.4 sources.
Thanks for visiting my website
Additional note: official PROJ.4 sources are compilable on Windows NT/2000/XP, so there should be no problems in using it with Borland C++ compiler.
Hello again
I’m the guy you are looking for. I have used proj4 on windows/web with good result. Now I need a soluton int the Win CE environment as well. I don’t know if TAXUS/TML is supported a wide range of projections but I guess not. Proj4 seams to be better for me. I will try it.
Hi Johan,
It’s nice to see you again.
Johan, I gave source code of the PROJ.4 port for Windows CE to Krzysiek in Taxus.
AFAIK, Krzysiek was going to test/use PROJ.4 on Windows CE but I don’t know what’s the state of the art now.
I’d suggest to contact Krzysiek and ask about it.
If you’d like to test it on your own, I’d be happy to hear about results you’ll get. Also, if you’d have any questions, please ask them directly or through the proj@lists.maptools.org list.
I’m at your service to provide the PROJ.4 support for Windows CE.
Mateusz
