Sign the Petition to reject the INSPIRE Directive
Wednesday, February 15th, 2006
Yesterday, Jo Walsh called on Mapping Hacks for signing the Petition to reject the INSPIRE Directive. You can read complete Jo’s story in
Help Petition for Public Access to Geodata in Europe post.
Today, the Proposed INSPIRE Directive on establishing a spatial data infrastructure in Europe began the process of second reading in the European Parliament. Within one to three months, INSPIRE’s provisions could become law. Many European citizens and small businesses will be negatively affected by a license, copyright and protection oriented policy towards sharing geographic data inside Europe.
Here are helpful resources to get more details about INSPIRE Directive and why your sign is so important:

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006Yesterday, I read on the CNN.com about revelation from Foja mountains in Indonesia:
Scientists said on Tuesday that they had found a “Lost World” in an Indonesian mountain jungle, home to dozens of exotic new species of birds, butterflies, frogs and plants.
Write your own map calibration tool
Monday, February 6th, 2006Yesterday, the CodeProject announced new articles. One of them is a small tutorial about how to write simple map calibration tool in .NET – Geo-referencing {Map Calibration} by Mohammad Riazi and H.Riazi.
Besides map calibration technique, this article explains rudiments of coordinates transformation between Geographic coordinates (latitude and longtitude) to Cartesian coordiantes (X, Y) on plane. Along clear explanation a set of simple equations is also provided. In my opinion this article is a good start for beginners of GIS and GPS applications.
