Ubuntu bug report #2681

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Yesterday, I sent my second bug report to the Ubuntu bug tracking system, but this time not to Bugzilla but to the brand new Malone.

So, here is the number #2681.

This bug report refers to Alexandria – books collection manager. Simply, I’m not able to run it at all. Ruby interpreter insists there are some files missing. I can not help Ruby and tell him how to run Alexandria successfully, because I’m not a Ruby guru. So, we need both to wait until this bug will be fixed ,-)

Unfortunately, it turned out pretty fast that my bug report is a duplicate of an existing bug. But I’m not worry about it. I’m sure it’s better for developers to have more bug reports, even duplicated, than less.

My Webcam Inauguration

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Today, I managed to put my webcam online. Here is the webcam page.
Thanks to Markus Gritsc for his great VideoCapture – A Win32 Python Extension. Now, when I’m booted to Windows, I can plug my webcam and run simple Python script uploading images to the web server. Currently, it works only on Windows, but I’m going to do similar solution on Linux, because at home I mostly use Linux.

Me in webcam

I’m having some problems with spca5xx kernel module. It freezes my computer with Ubuntu 5.10 when webcam client tries to access the /dev/video0. I put my story on the ubuntuforums.org. So, I believe someone will help me to fix it quickly. By now, only Windows-driven webcam is available.

Almost Spring Next Door

Monday, September 26th, 2005

Today, I published WordPress theme I use on my website. I called it Almost Spring Next Door and it is based on one of Becca Wei’s themes. You can find more themes on her website. She create amazing themes! Believe me! I took her Almost Spring theme as a foundation of mine. I added horizontal navigation bar, number of features and styles and I called it as being spring herald. Just for fun!

Here you can download latest verion of the Almost Spring Next Door theme.

Ubuntu Launchpad explained

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

About week ago I joined to Ubuntu Polish Translators. First, I had to learn how to use the Launchpad services and I was stucked. I could not get a clue what are all those Launchpad tools for, how to use them. As a newbie contributor I needed some introduction presenting the idea behind the Launchpad.

After a few days ZK posted a very handy explanation About Launchpad and more…. I strongly recommend every new user of the Ubuntu and its Launchpad to read it first.

I don’t like Katrina

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

People living in the New Orleans, Louisiana are like in a trap. The city lies below sea level and it’s still sinking (…agriculture)! Thousands of people live more than 2 metres below sea level surrounded by the waters of the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrai. It may seem water was waiting for an opportunity to destroy New Orleans. It happend. Hurricane Katrina attacked on August 29, 2005. Everyone around the World knows what Katrina did to people and cities of Louisiana…

Now, I feel as if I’ve lost a tester’s virginity. So, good luck and go to find a bug – nice motto. I think all details may be found well described ,-) in Ubuntu Bugzilla. Click on the number above!

So, I think you should remember this number! ,-)
